Health Care Crisis
What is government trying to pass? This is a question that far too few Americans know the answer to, but it is life changing. The government, Nancy Pelosi specifically, is once again trying to muscle through the House and Senate a monster of a bill without giving legislators, much less the public, enough time to read and understand it. This bill, if passed in its current state, will add millions in tax increases, cut coverage, and cause several small businesses to close. Instead of helping, this bill will continue to take America down the wrong path, a path that will eventually lead to the destruction of this country.
The passage of the health care bill and the continued declining state of our economy is quickly changing from a partisan issue to a survival issue. With the unemployment rate at an all time high, as well as the national debt, how can we expect to even remain standing, much less prosper. The sad reality is that we will not. Unless there is a drastic change in the way the government is leading this country, failure is inevitable.
One of the most amazing aspects of the health care bill, and its possible passage, is the fact that so many Americans are clueless as to what it contains and what the effects will be. There are so many who naively believe that it will not affect them. They are wrong. This piece of legislation will have an effect on every American. If you have existing coverage through a private Insurance company, that will be taken away in a matter of years. Once all of the insurance companies have folded, everyone will be funneled into the massive government health plan, better known as universal health care.
It is more important now, than ever before, to STAND UP for our freedom and prosperity. All of these elected officials that have the power to change our country are just that, elected officials. They were elected by the citizens of this country to represent the interests of this country. Many of them, however, would rather go along for the ride (so to speak) rather than STAND UP for what is right. Afraid of being seen as unpopular in the eyes of their colleagues, they cave to the pressure. It is our opportunity, right now, to give them a wake up call. If we, as Americans, will start contacting our elected officials and expressing our concerns, we can make a difference. Let them know that if they continue to pass foolish legislation that harms our country, they will not be reelected. This is FREEDOM in action, the people of this nation still posses the power, we just have to STAND UP and use it.
Jeff Duncan on Sanford’s Lawsuit
Representative Jeff Duncan released the following statement in support of Governor Mark Sanford:
“I deeply regret the General Assembly’s unwillingness to support sound fiscal policies in South Carolina. Last week I introduced an alternative budget that would have fully funded public education, public safety, and healthcare without using any of the disputed “stimulus” money. That alternative budget was voted down by the House in favor of legislation that leaves state government worse off than we were to begin with.”
“Compared to the alternative budget amendment I offered last week, the budget adopted by the General Assembly decreases funding for public education and corrections, and manages to completely ignore $1 billion in loans that South Carolina must pay back by 2011. I am disappointed that the General Assembly has refused to take the fiscally responsible course, but I am proud of Governor Sanford’s continued resolve and fully support his ongoing fight on behalf of the taxpayers. If Governor Sanford’s lawsuit is unsuccessful, I’m afraid that we will see the Legislature consider raising taxes to clean up a problem created by a huge hole in the budget down the road.”

STAND UP SC kicks off 2010 Campaign!!

The 2010 elections will be like none in generations. These elections will be vital to the renewal of limited government that is representative of its citizens and this election cycle will not be business as usual. Normally, endorsements are not made until a few weeks or months before primaries or general elections. Again, this is no time for business as usual.
Because there is a candidate who has demonstrated the political courage to stand up to the good ole boys in the South Carolina General Assembly and for this candidate’s commitment to transparent government, Stand Up SC is pleased to announce its endorsement of Representative Nikki Haley for Governor - the highest office in our state.
For the office of Lt. Governor, we are honored to endorse a dedicated American Citizen-Soldier, Bill Connor of Orangeburg. Lt. Col. Connor has shown that he is willing to defend our Constitution and our values with his life. What greater demonstration of commitment could we ask for?
Here are the criteria we use in making all endorsements:
A demonstrated commitment to Limited Government as defined by the U.S. and South Carolina constitutions.
A demonstrated commitment to Free Enterprise providing the freest, most open market place possible.
A demonstrated Respect For Citizenship by honoring those who are born here and those who come here honestly, respectfully, and legally.
A demonstrated understanding that Actions Have Consequences that neither governments nor corporations, nor individuals who make foolish decisions will be rewarded with bailouts of any type at any time.
Stand Up SC announced these endorsements yesterday at the Tea Party “Celebrate Freedom/Rollback Government” Rally in Columbia on the grounds of the South Carolina State House. We will now go to work in order to help these candidates in their efforts to lead South Carolina towards more open, honest, and limited government that is respectful of its citizens.

The 2010 Elections Will Be Like None Before: ENDORSEMENTS COMING SOON!
Recognizing that the 2010 elections are vital to the renewal of our Constitutional Republic and that they will not be “business as usual”, Stand Up South Carolina is preparing to begin endorsing candidates for state and federal office who understand that South Carolina and America are at a crossroads. We must do some serious soul-searching about which way we are going to go. We must stand up to protect our American values.
Normally, endorsements are not made until a few weeks or months before primaries or general elections. But, again, this is no time for “business as usual”. Here are the criteria we will be using to make endorsements:
1. A demonstrated commitment to Limited Government as defined by the U.S. and South Carolina constitutions – limiting the government is what allows us, as citizens, to protect our inalienable rights to freedom of speech, freedom of religion, self-defense and much, much, more.
2. A demonstrated commitment to Free Enterprise – the freest, most open market place possible is what has provided America and South Carolina with the ability to produce in abundance for ourselves and our posterity.
3. A demonstrated Respect For Citizenship – by honoring those who are born here and those who come here honestly, respectfully, and legally, the government will be doing what it should; the present approach rewards foreign criminal trespassers and punishes those who behave respectfully.
4. A demonstrated understanding that Actions Have Consequences – we must restore this understanding as a fundamental part of the consensus among citizens and within our governments at all levels: neither governments nor corporations nor individuals who make foolish decisions should be rewarded with bailouts of any type at any time – charity comes from family, friends, community and charitable organizations, not from the taxpayers whose hard earned dollars are the source of the public treasuries.
Let us know what you think of these criteria. Tell us if you have suggestions for additional criteria and also let us know if you know of a candidate or potential candidate who is worthy of consideration according to these principles.
Look for our endorsements to begin soon.
We hope you have a wonderful, safe, and freedom-filled INDEPENDENCE DAY. Keep the Spirit of 1776 Alive and stand up to protect our American values.

DeMint: Obama’s Spending Increased Interest Rates
Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement Friday responding to President Obama’s prediction that higher debt levels would lead to higher interest rates for American families and businesses.
“I’m glad the President is finally admitting that his reckless spending is going to have real economic consequences for American families and businesses. I’m glad he is finally acknowledging that his policies are going to lead to higher interest rates. Unfortunately, these admissions are three months late and a trillion dollars short.”
