Jeff Duncan on Sanford’s Lawsuit

By admin

Representative Jeff Duncan released the following statement in support of Governor Mark Sanford:

“I deeply regret the General Assembly’s unwillingness to support sound fiscal policies in South Carolina. Last week I introduced an alternative budget that would have fully funded public education, public safety, and healthcare without using any of the disputed “stimulus” money. That alternative budget was voted down by the House in favor of legislation that leaves state government worse off than we were to begin with.”

“Compared to the alternative budget amendment I offered last week, the budget adopted by the General Assembly decreases funding for public education and corrections, and manages to completely ignore $1 billion in loans that South Carolina must pay back by 2011. I am disappointed that the General Assembly has refused to take the fiscally responsible course, but I am proud of Governor Sanford’s continued resolve and fully support his ongoing fight on behalf of the taxpayers. If Governor Sanford’s lawsuit is unsuccessful, I’m afraid that we will see the Legislature consider raising taxes to clean up a problem created by a huge hole in the budget down the road.”
